Management Tips

If you are looking for simple tips to improve as a manager check out some ideas that worked for me.  These management tips are simple items that are often overlooked.  Many great ideas in management are small ones and those that employees truly appreciate.

Recognize Anniversaries

Every year that a quality employee works for you says something about you as a manager.  Reward your employees by recognizing them on their anniversary with the company or even within your group.

Ask For Feedback

Looking to solve a problem?  Looking to save money or improve processes?  Call a meeting and ask them to brainstorm.  Employees feel valued when asked for their opinions and you may learn more than you know.  Even if no worthy ideas are presented the value in asking for feedback is worthwhile.

Spread The Wealth

If you earn a bonus as a manager spread the wealth.  Take your employees to lunch to celebrate the goals they achieved.  Let them know you appreciate their success.

Listen And Ask Questions

My best management tip is to always keep your mouth shut and listen when an employee is ranting or complaining.  Wait until they are finished and ask questions.  Many times I find that the actual rant isn't the real problem.  Many times its a communication breakdown or a misunderstanding.  Ask questions that tip you off to the real issue or ways to help make the situation better.  If the employee is a star pay particular attention as they are probably seeing something you are missing.
